Have a safe & happy Halloween weekend from the staff of Selkirk School District! Here's a little peek at the art supply closet at Selkirk Elementary where we found a mermaid, a farmer, one of the 3 pigs, and an artist with a canvas and an assortment of crayons!! We followed all COVID protocols during the day but the picture was taken quickly after school hours to commemorate the fun.

We'd like thank the Ione Baptist Church, Malloy Family Farms in Kettle Falls, the McIntosh family of Ione, Donny-O's Donuts (Kathy & Donny Milliren), Porter's Plaza Pizza, First Book of Pend Oreille County, and the Ione Food Court for their donations that helped make the Selkirk Elementary School Pumpkin Family Night on October 27 a little more magical! The event was held primarily outside under a beautiful, but slightly chilly autumn night, with 158 parents and children joining 18 staff members and two other community volunteers for a night of pumpkin-themed fun! Don't forget about the Baptist Church's pumpkin carving contest on October 31 in Ione.

Please Help: You may have heard that Almira lost their school in a fire yesterday. It was a K-8 building and while they are working on a plans to move the students to other spaces within the Almira-Coulee-Hartline school district, everything inside was a total loss. Insurance will eventually cover items but in the meantime, we are taking donations of new PE shoes (sizes youth 11 to adult 8) for Almira students. We will ship them next week with a message of support, so if you would like to donate a pair of new PE shoes for Almira students, please drop them off at the elementary or high school by Tuesday, October 19.

COVID has definitely reared its ugly head at Selkirk Elementary with three confirmed cases in second grade. In an effort to mitigate the spread, we have quarantined the remainder of the second grade class for a bit. We are offering testing to second grade students next week in hopes of seeing them return by October 11. In the meantime, we have sent learning packets home and teachers will be connecting with families for online sessions. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but hope this process stops COVID in its tracks! If you have a neighbor with a second grade family, reach out to see if they need a delivery or anything! Let's join together as a Selkirk Community and help combat COVID!
